Mission

Campaign Finance exists because we believe the amount of money in American politics, and how hard it is for ordinary people to follow it, pulls the system away from what the founders intended: a truer, tighter and more prosperous republic, answerable to the people who live in it.

We don't think the fix is to tell you who to blame. We think it is to make the money visible: who raises it, who spends it, and who spends it from outside a race, shown the same way for every candidate, in every party, from the Commission's own public record.

What that means in practice

  • Same rules for everyone. Every figure comes from the U.S. Federal Election Commission and is computed the same way for every member and candidate, whatever their party. No scores, no grades, no party colors.
  • Show the source. Every number links to the FEC filing or query it came from, so you can check it yourself. See the methodology.
  • Current, not just historical. The 2026 race pages cover every registered candidate in every House and Senate race, and the live page shows the last week of time-sensitive FEC notices.
  • Protect private donors. We publish aggregates, never individual contributors' names or addresses (see the data-use policy). Federal law bars using contributor information to solicit money or for commercial purposes.
  • Fix mistakes in public. If we get something wrong, tell us, and the fix goes in the corrections log.

The mission is ours. The data pages stay neutral on purpose, because a record that leans can't be trusted by people who disagree with each other, and that is who it is for.
